Especially Special

Ever notice how when you tell someone they’re great or special they seem to deflect it uncomfortably?  But if you say, “You’re great because you took the trash out and you know I hate doing that,” or “You’re special because you took the time to really listen to me when I needed to be understood,” then they smile shyly and seem to accept it.  They understand where your praise is coming from and realize they provided a service that was noticed and appreciated.  They earned the adoration, which builds their confidence in what they have to offer and which positive qualities they possess.
